Ok so yesterday the Haberdashery was closed for the day because I took my lovely mum to the festival of quilts at the NEC in Birmingham. It was her birthday treat and it was such a fab day.
When we finally arrived our first stop was a patchwork workshop. We only did one workshop this year (only because I left it a bit late to book) but its the best one we’ve done yet. It was call Secret garden patchwork and it was so much fun.
Next it was time for shopping and a spot of lunch. 308 stands altogether of fabrics from all over the world, battling, templates, ribbons, trimmings and amazing gadgets. I had a little go on a 7ft longarm quilter which I’ve never tried before…WOW what can I say if, if I had 9k there I would have brought it like a shot. This one was manually operated but it was so relaxing and very impressive……I better start saving 🙂
We filled our shopping bags with fabrics, patterns, templates and headed off to see the experts work. I didn’t think there were that many quilts on display this year but there were still hundreds to look at and admire. I could only squeeze a handful on here.
Walking round we bumped into so many familiar faces, the very talented Jenny Rayment, Mandy Shaw from Dandelion Designs and the lovely Debbie and Kym from six penny memories with their gorgeous patterns.
All in all an inspiring day. Its seems my love of quilting is still there even though I haven’t quilted for a couple of months. I’m not a very confident quilter by any means and today has certainly inspired me to pull my finger out.
